简介
The first cut, "Lovin' This Spin I'm In", is a hypnotic groove with a Brazilian flavor. Musical drumming from Pepe Jimenez (Santana), BGVs from LA's finest, Amy Keys and Joe Turano and Joey's piano and organ solos make this a very strong opener. Moving to "Happy Wife, Happy LIfe", the title says it all. This up tempo number blends Reggae & Rock with a Billy Joel style vocal and an amazing tenor sax solo from Brandon Fields. Fun! "Raise The Roof" is a gospel meets Steely Dan inspired song that could bring a church crowd to their feet. Joey shares the lead vocal with Kye Brackett and Sharon Hendrix. Sharon lets loose to bring on the heat as the rest of Barry Manilow's band supports the contagious momentum. This is a real standout recorded at Trod Nossel, Wallingford, CT. This vintage studio is not far from where Joey grew up and where the Stones and other early rock legends have recorded. "Celebrate Your Life", the title track, is a more somber ballad, which is dedicated to the memory of Johnna Tucker, who after moving into the Melotti neighborhood, instantly became a very close friend of Joey and his wife, Valerie. Unfortunately, she fell ill and passed quickly, leaving Joey to process their feelings in these lyrics. "Honey Do" is a classic blues-style tune sung by rock legend Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot, Raiding The Rock Vault). Paul's silky vocal crosses the threshold from sweet & soulful to hitting raspy high notes reminiscent of Robert Plant. Coupled with the guitar magic of James Ralston (Tina Turner, Vonda Shephard) and a blazing Wurli solo by Joey, this track rocks. "Surrender To The Beat" is a swampy funk feel kept grooving by drummer Joey Finger (Donny & Marie) and bassist Ronee Mac. Chaka-esque BGVs are provided by Alex & Carissa (Jonelle Monae), while James adds a very tasty guitar solo and Joey a Wurli solo reminiscent of Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. "Don't Let Go" features a wonderful vocal performance by Tony Davich, whose style and tone is a cross between Otis Redding and Rod Stewart. Wendy Moten (Faith Hill & Tim McGraw) joins in midway and the two trade licks on the "Gimme Shelter" type vamp out. Very exciting! "Everyday I'm Livin' A Dream" is an in your face pop tune with some not so predictable turns. Cool Hammond organ, funky drumming and some tight brass make this a real groove. The final track "Perfect Day" closes out the CD with ultimate satisfaction. Chadwick Johnson, featured vocalist, delivers his signature smooth style, supported by Christine La Fonde's sweet harmonies. Joey's piano supports throughout with fills and rhythms reminiscent of Bruce Hornsby. After his final solo, he hands the torch over to Marion Meadows, whose soprano sax speaks masterfully. Joey supports with melodic conversation before they peacefully end the song together.
