Johnny Hollow is Gothic chamber music for the 21st century. Like a siren’s call, their unique blend of dark electronic and orchestral sounds have attracted fans since 2003. The music has received critical acclaim from such diverse publications as Rue Morgue (Canada), Fiend (Australia), Funprox (Netherlands) and Livid Looking Glass (US). ‘Bag of Snow’, the single from their independently released debut album “Johnny Hollow”, was featured on compilation CD’s for D-Side Magazine (France) and Club Electra Magazine (Japan) respectively. Conceived as holistic artistic vision, Johnny Hollow is Janine White (vocals, electro acoustics, and keyboards), Kitty Thompson (cello), Vincent Marcone (artistic design) and Steve Heihn (guitar). Both classically trained, Janine White and Kitty Thompson weave the threads of piano and cello to an unnatural end creating a tapestry of madness and passion throughout the band’s soundscape. Completing this audio transcendence, the darkly disturbing images of Juno winning artist Vincent Marcone transport the observer to a place where darkness is but the beginning of the journey. Signed by The Orange Record Label of Toronto in late 2005, Johnny Hollow’s new release “Dirty Hands” hit stores across Canada, January 22nd. The first single ‘Superhero’ has been gaining wide range acceptance on commercial and college radio in Canada and their cover of 80’s new wave song Nova Heart by the Spoons has been featured on both 102.1 The Edge and CBC Radio 2. Johnny Hollow has been performing live since 2004. Since relocating to Toronto in 2007, their live show, which features choreographed projected animations, is quickly gathering a devoted local following. The soundtrack quality of their music also lends itself to film. The opening track of “Dirty Hands” was recently featured in the internationally award winning short film “The Facts in the case of Mr. Hollow” which opened the 2008 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
