简介

anyhow. I've had a lot of support and a lot of great friends come through my life and ask me about various aspects of the record, but I figured I'd just give you kind readers the nitty gritty. Go ahead and stream that little ep and sit a spell while I spin you a yarn about how this came to be. 1. Count count was written around the time of "wasn't the world supposed to end?". It didn't feel like it fit the mood of that record however as it has a turn around in it that goes from "woe is me I need you" to "I was falling apart cause I put to much faith in you and not myself". I wanted that to be the start of this new record because I felt its transitional properties suited it well, and of course it kicks hard. One day, I will remix the piss out of this song and people will hear what I'm talking about as there's still some mud in it sonically, but I think it does the job at this exact minute. At the beginning there's a drum stop that was pure accident. I hit the drum once and the stick went flying out of my hand. I actually grumble/yell about it and then pick another stick up and get to bashing. It was to good to not leave in. 2. I loved you in December but.... it's a bitter pill to swallow isn't it. You can get comfortable and appreciative of someone but no longer feel the energy and spark you once felt for them at the beginning. That isn't necessarily a reason to cut ties and abandon ship. Infatuation can only hold on for so long. If we all stayed infatuated and happy the government would've put something in our food to keep us in love so they could take advantage of us.... oh what's that.... they do?.... well... what the hell did I write this song for then. This was one of those songs that I couldn't stop writing. It popped in my head as a guitar riff while I was driving around one day, and the next thing you know I was just singing .... more like blurting all these different guitar parts and drums into my phone. A few hours later when I got to the studio and listened to all the phone blurting I could actually still make sense of it and I committed the song to tape right away. If the line " I won't become a king cause when I reign it pours" isn't a homage to Paul Westerburg then it's nothing more then a copyright infringement that I'm not aware of yet. 3. Here we Go It's a love song. The catch is it's more about the possibility of love and being in love with that idea. You meet someone and you don't know if it's going to click or if it's going to fall apart within minutes, weeks, years. So this is more a love song about having a good feeling about where things are going and throwing caution to the wind. I mean, if you're just dipping your toe in the water of a potential relationship are you really ready for it? Just jump in that water. If a shark outright eats you alive it's a way better story and it'll give you way better songs than "I sorta bought someone coffee but that was it". 4. Black Dress this is a 3 for 1 song. Hate all you want kids, but there was this band "the crash test dummies" and I'm sure there were others before that... but look. These crash test dummies would do a thing where they'd tell 3 stories and bring them back to one unified chorus. I admired that, and now I steal that technique and use it all the time. Does it matter if the stories are all factually correct or in chronological order or even accurate emotionally? Nope. If it serves the song and creates the right mood then I feel I've done my job. My barely making me enough to eat ramen noodles job. I do love sodium though. 5. Bad Note I finally captured a song that's basically about the fear of choking when first meeting someone. You want so bad to be yourself but you're trying to censor everything you think is awful about yourself... you want to leave that person that you've just met wanting more of you... and yet your confidence is shot and your nerves are spent and the last thing you say to someone as you leave is "you look like a porkchop" and you get to spend the rest of the night hitting your head against the wall. 6. I'm into you a love song. the only catch is the tone of the music is demented and twisted. It's more suggestive of the darker side of someone. You know, as much as we all do our best to not look like total wrecks on the outside there's a lot of pain and questions on the inside. As much as we don't want to admit it, when you do connect with someone the little desperate part of you that starts to recede is still there, it still has its fears and its doubts, but it also has its wants and desires too. 7. Hovering a lot of people are like "life is about the journey, not the destination". Bullocks. You have to have a destination. You have to be confident enough to believe you're allowed to have a good relationship, or a good career, or hell... even both. You're allowed to say "I want 20 kids" or "I want no kids" or "I'm going to eat bologna everyday until I die at 25 from pork brain" or "I'm going to make a sand castle out of dead deer I find on the side of the road". You have your destination, and it's allowed to change or get more defined as you go along. Okay, we get that. But if you just say you're going over to another state and you get in your car and you drive there.... great, you found the destination, but you were stuck in your car just listening to radio... maybe talking... maybe texting and running buses full of children off the road you asshat. why just drive towards your destination as fast as possible when there's so many moments that are worth being in and seeing and experiencing. this whole EP is about people I met who were just quick flashes of light in my life. Some were new friends, some were bad nights of flirting at a bar, some were dances in a salsa club, some people stuck around for awhile, some people fled in the middle of the night never to be seen again. this song sums up something I've been trying to say for a long time. There are moments where regardless of the doubt one or several parties may have, that moment is perfect. That night is full of energy and laughter and hope. You have to hold onto those moments and embrace them. They don't come as often as they should. We can doubt all we want before and after... but we have to take what we're given and make it into something as amazing as we all are for the time we're allowed. Or else we're just driving aimlessly to a destination we may never reach, listening to npr or classic rock and thinking "there's gotta be more to this". There is more to it, it's in those calm perfect moments, acknowledge them and you'll find your life a lot richer for it.
