What Army's sound is dark and raging, yet melodic. Their guitar tone is thick and heavy, underlaid with a foundation of clear, clean bass. The drum style is simple but driving and hard, even in the ballads. Over all this floats the dynamic vocals, fronted by Cat Fury, who can turn from a whisper to a scream in the space of a syllable. Backup vocals are almost a rhythm instrument in this band, punctuating the crescendos and accenting choruses. The whole sound blends into something strange yet catchy.

The songs on this third album are themed around dreams and nightmares; whether the lyrics are about being besieged by zombies, kidnapped by pirates, or trapped with an incubus in a burning hotel room, somehow the fantastic becomes real in the same way a nightmare seems real while you are asleep and dreaming.
