From her earliest childhood days , Jocelyn West was drawn to the musical life.Her grandfather was a Scottish fisherman and fiddlemaker and she was deeply Influenced by him during her frequent family trips to his village on the north east coast of Scotland.She grew up in London and started learning piano and violin at the age of 6.She went to the Purcell School of Music when she was 11 and studied violin under the tutelage of the Hungarian teacher Suzanne Rozsa. On leaving school ,Jocelyn did some modelling and indie film acting to make an extra income and appeared in videos by Dave Stewart and the then unknowns, The Verve.She composed the soundtrack and acted in a short film by John Boorman ‘s ‘Two Nudes Bathing’. The signing to Mute Records as Miranda Sex Garden, with two of her school friends Kelly Mc Cusker and Katharine Blake was the result of their Accapella busking adventures . She left Miranda Sex Garden and joined the mediaeval ensemble Sinfonye, who introduced her to the work of Hildegard von Bingen. In 1996 Jocelyn was awarded a fellowship by the Arts foundation.She relocated to Los Angeles. She was heard singing informally, which eventually led to a collaboration with David Lynch and Mammoth Records, for a recording entitled Lux Vivens (interpretations of works by Hildegard von Bingen.) She returned to England in the year 2000 and ever since has independently pursued her musical career which includes teaching , singing with chanteuse ,Emily Loizeau on the Continent and recording songs of her own in London and Scotland .She released the album Salt Bird in march 2009.
