BETTY BEATH - IN THIS GARDEN, comprising: Spider; Butterflies; Worm; Snail; Sparrow. Performance: Susan Lorette Dunn, soprano; Betty Beath, piano. Composed in 1971 to poems by her husband David Cox, this is Betty Beath's first major song cycle. "In This Garden" was chosen by the National Council of Women of Australia, for performance at the 1976 International Council of Women Conference in Canada. Track 2. ROBERT ALLWORTH -HYMN TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY is a serene piece of organ music and shows the composer's devotion to the Virgin Mary. Performance: Lawrence Bartlett on the organ of St. Michael's Church, Vaucluse, Sydney. Track 3. ROBERT ALLWORTH - DREAMS FOR SOPRANO & PIANO The work was composed in 1973 and is an evocative impressionistic setting to words by Myra Shire Baird, heard here the first recording made of this piece. Performance: Susan Lorette Dunn, soprano; Betty Beath; piano. Track 4. ANN CARR BOYD - SUMMER HAZE Composed & completed in December 1993, "Summer Haze" is Ann Carr-Boyd's newest piano composition. The music was inspired by the lovely tropical garden of the composer Betty Beath and her husband David Cox. The music is dedicated to composer Robert Allworth. Track 5. DULCIE HOLLAND - THREE TREE SONGS - Willow; Tree Fern; Pines. The songs were composed in 1991 to poems by Andrew Lansdown, and were performed at the Sydney Festival in January 1993, at a concert in honour of Dulcie Holland's 80th birthday - the performers then being the same as on this recording. Track 6. COLIN SPIERS - ELEGY 919890 Performance: Patricia Pollett, viola; Colin Spiers, piano. Track 7. COLIN BRUMBY - THREE SPANISH SONGS composed to words from a Spanish Madrigal by Judith Rodriguez (1980) Performance: Jenny Dawson, soprano; Colin Brumby, piano. Track 8. "MINNESOTA DREAMING" which was written at the request of 2MBS-FM programmer & presenter Jean Reisner. The music is evocative of Jean Reisner's place of birth in Minnesota, U.S.A. Performance: Ann Carr-Boyd, piano. Track 9. DOROTHY DODD - MOONRISE Composed in 1985, this composition has continued to delight audiences with Dorothy Dodd's many performances at various venues. Dorothy Dodd first won international acclaim in 1949 with her English language lyrics to the song "Granada" and has been a board member of the Australian performing Arts Board (APRA), for many years. The composition is played here by pianist Ann Carr-Boyd. Track 10. ERIC CROSS - HOOPERISMS, OPUS 181 (1991) These delightful duos for two mandolins are dedicated to the two performers on this recording Adrian Hooper & Paul Hooper. The music comprises 6 duos based on the names of Adrian & Paul Hooper's children: Michael, Andrew, Catherine, Melissa, Anthony & Brendan. TRACKS 1,3,4, & 9 AT GREVILLEA STUDIOS on 16/12/93.
