Fans say that Elisabeth Geel, as a songwriter, combines the poetry of Joni Mitchell, the surprising harmonies of Brasilian composers and the jazzy, ironical style of Donald Fagen, in a fresh and totally personal way. Her smooth yet powerful voice recalls the great female vocalists from the past. Elisabeth was born in the Netherlands. A two-year’s stay in the US in her younger years has a major impact on her songwriting, and some of her finest songs were inspired by this magical period. After returning to Europe she moves to Italy. She presently lives in Verona. Her singing career starts in the late eighties with live performances in local clubs between Rome and Milan, and ever since she has performed in a variety of venues, from luxury resorts to jazz clubs and music festivals throughout Europe, Asia, the US and the Middle East. She also exhibits her vocal skills as a duet partner and backup singer on various CD’s, and writes music, lyrics and arrangements for other artists. In 2006 she records her first solo album entitled “SoCool” (Mprecords). As a guest singer she appears on Zooga Jazz 2, featuring Fabrizio Bosso (Zoogami, 2006) and she records five tracks on Aaron Tesser’s album “Lookin’ Ahead” (Irma Records, 2008). The album “Preface to a Dream” (2009) is produced by the Schio Music Academy (Schio, Italy). It contains eleven new songs arranged for string orchestra and jazz quintet by renowned Italian arrangers as Bruno Cesselli, Ettore Martin, Federico Malaman,Toni Moretti, and by Elisabeth herself, and was recorded live in a music theatre. In addition to her musical talents, Elisabeth is also a visual artist. She has held numerous art shows and as an illustrator she has worked on important books and advertising campaigns.
