简介
Jason Byrd (guitar/vocals) began his musical career in his late teens when he formed a band with high school chum Kerry Brooks (bass). They recruited drummer Waylon Bayard from another local band to join them in The Groov. This blues/rock trio played original material penned by Byrd, as well as classic rock covers, in the Charlotte area for the next three years. After a couple of recording sessions, including one at Charlotte's famed White Room Studio, and some notable reviews in local magazines such as "Indie File," the band split to pursue other musical interests. Jason continued to perform with Kerry Brooks in jazz ensembles; often attending clinics or university-sponsored jam sessions with jazz artists like Jason Marsalis, Irwin Mayfield, and Doc Holiday. In spring of 1997, Jason joined the then Grateful Dead cover band, Wavy Train. He brought his originals to the table and the band began polishing their image as one of North Carolina's best original groups. In the summer of 2001, Wavy Train released a live CD of songs ("One Big Happy Accident") written by Byrd, including one co-write with band mate Cal Comerford. Jason has begun working on a solo career and has opened for the likes of Little Feat, in addition to performing with Marti Jones and Don Dixon at The Ram's Head Tavern and The Birchmere. He has also been a performer at the International Pop Overthrow in New York City and Baltimore. Jason most recent CD, "Busy Day," was recorded with the help of Jamie Hoover, the talented and respected songwriter, musician, and producer. The album is largely influenced by classic artists such as the Beatles, Brian Wilson, and Elvis Costello, but maintains a unique and original sound that can be attributed only to Byrd.
