简介
Peter Kenagy, trumpet; Jeremy Udden, saxophones; Yasushi Nakamura, bass; Jorge Pérez-Albela, drums This was recorded when the band you hear here was all living and working in Boston. The idea here was to do a session with the trumpet and alto pairing with minimal composed material. Backed by just bass and drums, we worked more with space and counterpoint than harmonic accompaniment. I wrote half the tunes, and the rest are based on the changes to standards that Jeremy often suggested, inspired by Brookmeyer, Konitz, and others. “I Loves You Porgy” is the great tune by George Gershwin from the opera "Porgy and Bess." The music features a range of moods from funky to free, from blues to rock. Fans of Jeremy Udden’s alto sound will be glad to hear this disc, and will also be glad to hear him on soprano and tenor a little, too. Tyler Wood recorded the proceedings in one afternoon session in his studio in 2005. We recorded all together live, with no overdubs or splices, and only a few takes. -Pete
