简介
With a warm, smooth and rich tone in his voice that has been described as like “chocolate”, Nic Jeffries is quickly gaining a reputation as a talented and polished Australian performer. With varying influences from Hank Mobley, Kenny Garrett & John Coltrane on the Saxophone through to Donny Hathaway, Frank Sinatra & James Taylor in his voice, Nic has had an extensive career performing music across many genres and styles. Whilst only still in his 20’s, he has travelled the world performing music for celebrities and large corporate companies alike, all the while still maintaining an individual style and sound all of of his own, earning him much respect and admiration from his peers. Nic completed his HSC in 2001, and finished up by performing as an invited guest at the Sydney Opera House for the 2001 “Encore Concert” after receiving a mark of 100% for HSC extension music. With this mark placing him 1st in the state for music in 2001, he was determined to pursue a career in music full-time, something that has been extremely difficult to achieve for many. In 2003, he was accepted to Study at the prestigious Conservatorium of Music in Sydney, majoring in Jazz Saxophone, which had been a dream right throughout his high school years. Nic has studied with some of the greats in Australian Jazz, including Col Loughnan; Dale Barlow; Judy Bailey; Steve Brien; Andrew Dickeson & Craig Scott - to name just a few. He continues to perform with some of these great teachers and mentors, as well as continuing some relationships performing with some of his best friends whom he met whilst studying at the Conservatorium. Most of these great musicians can be heard in his bands regularly. Much of Nic’s achievement within the Australian music industry has come from his talent in fronting and managing his own bands to high levels of success. He is called upon regularly with his bands to support celebrities and international personalities, as well as regularly managing the music side of some of the largest corporate events and conferences both locally and internationally. Throughout the past 10 years since completing high school, invitations to perform at Jazz, Blues and other music festivals all over Australia have provided a very busy performance schedule. Throughout the past few years, Nic has performed as both a front and side man for the Wangarratta Jazz Festival, the Newcastle Jazz Festival, The Rocks Aroma Coffee Festival, The Thredbo Jazz Festival, the Sydney Festival, the Noosa Jazz Festival & the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival, as well as being invited as a featured artist to perform at the prestigious 2007 International Manly Jazz Festival, where he performed to a receptive crowd of over a thousand people. In 2009, Nic ventured into the studio to record his debut album. With such a variety of influences, the album has turned out to be a collection of some of his favourite songs, no matter what ‘genre’ they may hail from. With his background and studies in jazz performance, the album and the songs have been arranged for a quartet featuring some wonderful musicians: Hugh Barrett (Piano); Alex Boneham (Bass) & long time friend Cameron Reid (Drums). The album also features guest appearances from Australian Jazz guitar icon, James Muller and the northern beaches based trumpet talent, John Pennings. The debut album is due to be released in April/May 2011. You can hear some samples from the album on the audio page of Nic’s website at www.nicjeffries.com 2010 was a big year, with Nic being contracted to manage and run his band for a tour with International super-star Chef, JAMIE OLIVER for shows in both Melbourne & Sydney. Along with this, Nic’s band Wonderbrass have been selected to perform as part of a TV series on Foxtel’s Aurora Channel which will air in June & have also spent some time filming a pilot TV show hosted by Australian swimming champion, Ian Thorpe. A musician admired by both audiences and his peers alike, Nic’s debut album is sure to send him traveling all over Australia and the globe in 2011 and beyond.
