Beijing SyndaKit is an algorithmic composition, an instruction set for a self-organizing system based on bird flocking, the way RNA molecules combine and reproduce, the lateral transmission of data in African drum choirs, and the computer game "cellular automata" also known as "artificial life." Beijing SyndaKit creates organisms that strive to groove in unison, that need to mutate and transform, that become static and decay. Beijing SyndaKit was composed in 1998 for Sharp's ensemble Orchestra Carbon and has since been performed by Zeitkratzer in Berlin, Veni in Bratislava, Agon Orchestra in Prag and ad hoc musical aggregates in Tokyo, Vienna, Frankfurt, Tübingen, Nagoya, Palermo, Zurich and more. This performance was part of a three-day E# Marathon at the notorious D22 club in Beijing in 2007.
