Cuchulain Kelly is a DC-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter best known on the DC music scene as cofounder of the folk rock band Handsome Hound (http://www.handsomehoundband.com/). The songs on this solo album represent a collection of tales and tunes written as early as 2014, when Cuchulain was living in Paris, and as late as early 2017, after Cuchulain moved to Washington DC and lived through the election of Donald Trump. Some songs took years to finish, others only a few minutes. As Chris Freeland, the album's co-producer and sound engineer, once described it, this sound of this record is "eclectic" and "diverse." The genres on the album range from samba to hip hop, from second line to rock n roll, from country to choral music, always with an undercurrent of American folk. These songs are love songs and protest songs. They are happy songs and sad songs. They are observations and reflections. They're humorous and melancholic. They are shouting matches and pensive reveries. They are moving and still. More than anything these songs are meant to be a celebration, a declaration of hope, and pledge to persist.
