Writing ‘Advice’ was one of the easiest songs I have written. It is about someone who is close to me. After seeing and hearing again that she and her boyfriend had been in another argument, the conservation we had that night was playing on my mind. I was never too keen on her boyfriend, especially as most of the time she was with him she was not happy. But, from past experience, I have learnt that there is only so much ‘Advice’ that you can give someone, with them actually willing to listen to you – you know what I mean, don’t you? In any case, whatever way, for someone to move forward, or to make a decision about something they have to decide it for themselves. Later that night, the thoughts that were running through my mind were: “Why can’t she see the obvious?”, “She doesn’t deserve this?” and “Why is she going through all this pain with no gain?” To contemplate further, I ran myself a hot bath. While lying in the bath thinking about their relationship, I spontaneously started singing out loud the words “People say I don’t know a thing about love.” I could feel a song building up inside me of my feelings. So I got straight out of the bath and started writing down all the lyrics that were coming out of my mouth. Within 10 minutes the whole song was written. Besides the story of how ‘Advice’ was written, I have met some fantastic and generous people along the way and great musicians, who have also given me valuable ‘Advice’, thank you.
