The wealth of recital material that was written in and around the Paris Conservatory during the early twentieth century allows the student to explore instrumental color and performers to display it. Throughout the trumpet’s history, composers were limited by the instruments lack of sophistication, that is until the invention of the piston valve. Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart Beethoven and Schubert all used the trumpet in almost entirely boisterous or regal iterations. Berlioz was the first composer of consequence to realize the trumpet’s coloristic capabilities and blaze the path for future composers, such as those included in this disc of Twentieth Century French Recital Music for Trumpet
