The Sound of SuperBad feel is a deep and mesmerising mix of soulful, electronic house music incorporating hypnotic female vocals, funky beats and abstract chords. It’s hard to find a comparison artist as their influences are many and varied, but you may catch a hint of Roy Ayers in a vibraphone run, a Rhodes style synth with echos of Gil Scott-Heron, or a nod to Disclosure in some edgy, addictive chords. Their influences cover a wide range of artists and genres from the rare groove vibes of Roy Ayers and souful sounds of Marvin Gaye, through to the Chicago house scene of the ‘80s and more recent music offerings from artists such as Miguel Migs, Disclosure and DJ Spinna. The ’Fundamentals’ EP is the debut release from this creative duo, a diverse collection of tracks, all with the distinctive Sound of SuperBad feel, some with the haunting lead vocals of guest singer Tinny. From the beautifully abstract and hypnotic ‘All Fall Down’, to the mesmerising beats of the title track ‘Fundamental’, you’ll find it hard to resist at least a head nod along to the trademark heartbeat underpinning much of their work. Add in the seriously summery feel of ‘Samba Sunset’ with its roots in Brazilian house music and you’ve got your 2017 playlist good to go. The addictive ‘must listen again’ tunes on this EP alongside the high quality of production make it a must for any serious dance music lover’s collection.
