Johnny Barker produced, arranged, and performed the tracks for "Cuddle Up". He wrote "Summertime's Calling Me," another beach music classic. In beach music song popularity polls, "I Love Beach Music" and "Summertime's Calling Me" usually occupy the number one and number two spots. Carolina (or East Coast) beach music should not to be confused with West Coast surf music and the term "shag" should not be confused with the suggestive British slang term popularized in the movies by Austin Powers! "Shag" here means a style of swing dance, the step of choice for East Coast beach music. "Cuddle Up" songwriter, Allen Ball, has written over 1,300 songs in various genres. He began writing songs in the 440th Army Band, at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, in 1967. His career spans six decades from the early '60s. He attended Little Creek Naval School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, from November 1966 until May 1967. In 2003, Billy Scott [voted "Artist of the Decade" in beach music and rhythm and blues] recorded Allen's "America My Home," which appeared on Scott's Singers & Songwriters CD, released in 2003.
