Jeremiah Murphy spent 11 years in New York City performing in various comedy venues, being diagnosed with all sorts of offbeat medical issues, and paying way too much to live in a tiny crappy apartment. His comedy tackles religion, politics, education, the workplace, the medical establishment, super heroes, and his own crackpottery. Jeremiah's definitely on the fringe, but while this makes him an outcast, hopefully it will make you laugh. The stand-up portions of this album were recorded live at UNDER St. Mark's in New York City by Ryan Stratton. Wayne Henry hosted the first recording and Alan Lidogoster hosted the second recording. The live recording was made with a BR-800 portable multi-track recorder, using a Shure SM58 stage mic and two condenser microphones on the audience. Aalap Patel, Alan Lidogoster, and Carrie Sipple gave invaluable input on the stand-up set. The live recordings and studio recordings were produced by Jeremiah Murphy and Carrie Sipple. Wayne Henry and Alan Lidogoster appear in the stand-up tracks as the hosts of the recordings. The studio recording sketches were recorded in Los Angeles, CA and Staten Island, NY. The "studio" in Staten Island consisted of a sound booth made from twin mattresses, blankets, and clamps. The "studio" in Los Angeles was made from a closet lined with blankets and towels, held together with power cords and clamps. The studio recordings were all recorded by Jeremiah Murphy using a Zoom H4N portable recorder and an Audio-Technica 3035 Condenser microphone. The recordings were edited and mixed using Audacity and Garageband on a Macbook. All sketches and stand-up were written and performed by Jeremiah Murphy. Carrie Sipple appears in Darth Vader's Blind Date as well as Batman Begins to Feel Sick. Mozart the Cat can be heard briefly in Superman at a Parent Teacher Conference. Many of the sketches were written as part of National Sketch Writing Month (check it out!). Characters featured in this album such as Professor Damrosch "The Cool English Professor," Sealegs McGoo, Vice Principal Jones, Chuckles the Birthday Bear, and Eddie McOwskey were developed in the improv show Character Dogville which ran in New York City for several years. Much of Jeremiah's stand-up was developed through a year and a half of open mics, most frequently at the SuperEgo open mic run by Dale Sorenson and Michelle Dobrawsky at the New York Comedy Club. On the track "Never Forget the Good Times," Jeremiah references Mohammed Atta's passport being found after the horrible events on 9/11/2001. Jeremiah thought he remembered hearing this at the time, but the attempt to find news articles to back up this claim leads one down a rabbit hole of various (and dubious) conspiracy websites and forums as well as an article in the Guardian column which seems to mention Atta's passport being discovered without any citation. Wikipedia currently states that Satam al Suqami's passport was recovered after the crashes, not Mohemmad Atta's (it is believed the two were confused in the reporting). And if you do a search on Satam al Suqami, you will probably find other journalisically sound sources. So, it seems a passport was recovered but that it was probably not Atta's. We cool?
