First and foremost, let me say that I absolutely love Soul Music and it is a distinct pleasure to introduce this project, "Fall In Love" from Mr. Bruce Payne. I've been independently reviewing Soul Music for quite awhile, and relish exploring new talents that share a passion for Soul Music, respect the past, embrace the future, and who have the ability to tell timeless stories that touch your soul. You may recall first hearing the raw guttural delivery of Bruce Payne on his first release, "Meet Me Halfway" in 2010, from Two Brothers Records-US. After hearing the title track I instantly knew this man had real soul! Bruce tells the timeless story of a man pouring his heart out to his beloved, and how good things could be if she'd only meet him "halfway". Bruce also skillfully covered a soul gem, "Love Is A Hurting Thing" by Lou Rawls which exudes soul with ease. Bruce managed to capture the true tenor of that composition, and has returned with this current release which doesn't disappoint in the least! "Fall In Love" opens with the title track, which I might say is a toe tapper and Bruce is impassioned with his vocal delivery as he is on the tracks that follow. Stand outs on this release are "Make Believe", and "Best Thing Yet", both of which spotlight Bruce's guttural baritone in a more textured and velvety smooth style, than the more raw upfront approach of his first release. Furthermore, Bruce takes a pause from singing and breaks it down simply speaking his heart to the woman of his desires. With just seven selections on Bruce's first release on the Digital Garden Music, LLC label, Bruce has managed to create and capture a project that can be listened to from opening to close without the need to skip a song in between. It so pleased me to receive an advanced copy of this release from Digital Garden Music, LLC and to have the opportunity of being able to share my thoughts with you.
