I was sitting on my couch in August, watching TV, when something smacked me in the back of the head. The title of this tune banged into my brain like the announcement of a train arriving, and I knew I had to pay attention because, like all composers, I knew that something special was coming through from wherever inspiration comes. I wrote it in a kind of dream. It took about twenty minutes. It is not about one particular relationship. It seems, in retrospect, to be about the aggregate of the experience of the loss of intimacy and trust, and a confession of human failing, and, finally, a hope that we can be forgiven for being human and that we can find love again, over and over.
