In today’s society children are encouraged to pursue money, love sex, and experiment with drugs. Jakaan was no different. Growing up, he dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player and living an extravagant lifestyle. However, Jakaan realized there was a greater purpose for his life and vanities of the world would never be enough to fulfill his desires. Christopher Knowles, better known as Jakaan, was born in Vero Beach, FL and raised in Gifford, FL with both of his parents and two sisters. Jakaan was exposed to domestic violence, drug use, and the realities of financial hardships throughout his childhood. As a result, he poured his energy into basketball and other activities as an escape from his reality. While hanging with his friends, he discovered his ability to creatively permeate vivid words over beats. His new found hobby would eventually fuel his love for Hip Hop and aspirations to become a rapper. Jakaan continued to practice his craft and would eventually collaborate with two of his close friends, Jimmy Hill Jr and Nicara Durden, to form a rap group and music label called Rock Bottom Entertainment. Rock Bottom’s music was played on several radio stations and they regularly performed in nightclubs throughout the state. Though Rock Bottom experienced success, Jakaan would eventually adhere to the call of God on his life and cease to glorify money, sexual sensation, and self-indulgence. However, Jakaan’s love for music wouldn’t die. He transformed his love of Hip Hop to Holy Hip Hop and released his first solo project as a Christian artist called From Death to Life. Additionally, he operates his own studio, Jehovah Entertainment, and is working on compilation album and mixtape entitled Da Lion’s Den. Jakaan continually collaborates with Holy Hip Hop and Gospel artists to share the love of Christ and spread the Gospel throughout the world. Jakaan is truly passionate about the life he lives for Christ. His life is a testament of commitment, perseverance, and transformation.
