Dulcinea Detwah, Brooklyn’s first lady of Ghetto Tech, is on a mission to revive her native Detroit’s booty music in a new decade. She’s come a long way from her jitting days at popular joints like, the River Rock and the Warehouse—by dropping her debut dance track, “If You Know What's Good” in November 2009 with NYC producer Fernando "Royal" Singleton. Named for Don Quixote’s legendary lady, Dulcinea’s sweet and funky beats recall her love of Hip-hop pioneers: Lil’ Kim, Rakim, MC Lyte, Nas and Slick Rick, highlighted by what she calls her “art-nerd sensibility,” drawing her to the history of the Black Power Movement, Helen Keller’s resolve and the writings of Ayn Rand. Inspired by skating rink DJs spinning ghetto tech classics, Dulcinea explored her musical prowess through choir, clarinet, dance and theater, ultimately landing her at the renowned University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Along with fellow dance choreographers, Dulcinea perfected her study of modern and classical styles. Fast forward to the present, Dulcinea’s hitting Brooklyn hard with her motley of smarts and arts, ready to bring the booty music with wit. Check her latest single, “Cool Kid,” which debuted at downtown Brooklyn’s Schermerhorn Theater, ascending Dulcinea to ghetto superstardom.
