简介

Greg Walsh is piano/vocalist/songwriter performing mostly blues/rock/soul, but also with many varied influences shining through. He performs solo and occasionally with other musicians. Walsh's music history spans several decades, many genres and music scenes. He has recorded two EPs in that time. He has moved from classical piano to rock bands to solo synth techno freak, to making a living from the soul/blues/pop piano bar environment where he dissected, analysed and played some of the best songs written over the past century. Now he is reborn again, still on the piano but with some original blues/rock/soul. Influences include so many musicians: Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Jan Hammer, and Vince Jones to name a few. More recently influences have come from the New Orleans blues school, especially of the great piano players such as Dr. John and Professor Longhair. Walsh has a unique warm voice and bluesy piano playing. Comparisons include: "sounds like Ali Campbell" (lead singer of UB40), "sounds like Vince Jones", "The White Ray Charles". "And he's not just a fine piano player. Greg possesses an eclectic musical style, ranging from blues, to jazz, to soul and rock, and what's even better is the fact that he owns an incredible voice." - Australian Musician Magazine. "The very special sound of Walsh's voice makes it difficult to compare with other singers." - rootstime.com.be In October 2008 he launched his12 track all original music album "A Busy Street" at Dizzy's Jazz Club with seven piece band. It has songs with orchestrations ranging from full rich vocals, piano, drums, bass, guitar, Hammond organ, synths, violin, viola, and cello, to the more sparse sound of just vocals, piano and drums. It includes a range of talented musicians including David Kleynjans on drums, Aaron Barnden - violin, Winnie Huang - viola and Bonnie Smart - cello. There has been confirmed airplay of the album so far on at least 19 different radio stations including some in the USA and Europe. Song #12 "Pool of Love" made it into the final six of the 2008 Nab Songwriting contest. Gigs so far this year include a solo mini tour of the Victorian Surf Coast and a spot at the Chillout Festival in Daylesford. Goals for the future include building up even more original material, promoting the album, performing more and generally spreading the word. www.myspace.com/gregwalsh2 www.greg-walsh.com
