Lilit Pipoyan was born to an artistic family and studied music from an early age, only to abandon her passion and discover it again many years later. Pipoyan belongs to that narrow circle of modern Armenian musicians whose works present an alternative to the traditional folk, classical, spiritual and pop music. Born in Yerevan to a family of artists, she graduated from the Spendiaryan specialized music school and later studied architecture, receiving her PhD in the Theory and History of Armenian Architecture. Pipoyan's compositions are based on Armenian poetry and folklore. She is fond of medieval secular songs, for which she creates modern arrangements or new melodies when the originals are lost, with distinctly Armenian character. She also composes music based on modern Armenian poetry. Lilit Pipoyan performs with arrangements of Armenian folk music and own original musical compositions and lyrics. Accompanies herself with guitar and piano as well as with string quartet + solo guitar, flute, percussion. Since 1980 has been performing on the most stages of Armenia, as well as on such stages as Kodak Theater in LA,USA, Herba Buena Center for the arts and Palace of the Legion of Honor’s Florence Gold Theater in San Francisco, USA, as well as in Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Switzerland, England, Italy.
