简介

"Billy Mata & Texas tradition are one of the top Western Swing groups on this planet. Chaney plays a wicked lead and Roger Edgington is an incredible steel player. Rocco Fortunato, the drummer holds the rhythm section beat as Smokey Dacus did with Bob Wills. This entire band is dynamite and their albums have been right on top on my show for years. Billy is a huge talent and a great guy." "In this new album, Billy Mata salutes his heroes of Western Swing and Texas dance hall music. To do this, Billy chose 13 tunes and uses some of the finest Western Swing musicians available. In addition, there are many guest stars. The musicians include two fine steel guitar players. From Billy's Texas Tradition band we hear the steel of Roger Edgington and also that of guest Randy Reinhard...Other members of the Texas Tradition heard are Richard Helsley on fiddle and harmony vocals, David Spangler on lead guitar, Jim Cleckler on bass, and Rocco Fotunato on drums and harmony vocal... A real treat is the incredible Johnny Bush joining Billy on the Johnny Bush/Larry Kingston masterpiece and RCA classic From Tennessee to Texas. Also from the Johnny Bush collection, Billy treats us to Willie Nelson's Undo The Right. Billy also shows off his excellent talents with two fantastic Western Swing originals, I'm Goin' Back to San Antonio and Tally Ho. The last Boudleaux Bryant wrote Case of Sorrow on which The Metheny Brothers (Travis and Perry) join Billy. From the Curtis Potter collection comes All I Need is Time, with a string arrangement by Richard and Karen Helsley. From the Duke Ellington songbook and the pen of Billy Strayhorn we enjoy Take the "A" Train. From Western Swing icons Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan, Billy warbles Lee Ross' Heart to Heart Talk. Two other Texas dance hall dandies are Living and Learning (A duet with Jodee Preston) and the late Nat Stuckey's Don't You Believe Her. The latter tune is Billy's tribute to the one and only Ray Price. The album also includes two country music items Ring Ring Telephone Ring and Hearts. Emily and Shannon Mata as well as Tyler Richards on Hearts join Billy. This album is high recommended.." -Mike Gross, WVOF-FM, Fairfield, CT
