简介
Sabrina is no stranger to performance, as the second of five children she always found herself seeking a means of self expression which lead her to the stage. Unbeknownst to her at the time she had begun what would become her life’s work. Skilled in many art forms, she found herself in everything from dance troupes to theater competitions. Ironically, it would not be until much later in life when she would begin performing her poetry. As a student of Smithfield High School she demonstrated her leadership skills and thirst for excellence as she maintained a 3.9 GPA, captained the cheerleading squad and was assistant manager of the school’s literary magazine. While she wasn’t sure where her talents would lead her she knew that she couldn’t make a living on her talent alone and applied to the Virginia Commonwealth University’s School for the Arts in 2001. During the second year of her studies in the BFA program of VCU she was encouraged by her best friend to perform her poetry at an open mic event. Nervous, and unsure Sabrina took the stage and shared her vulnerability publically for the first time. Quickly finding herself addicted to the healing that spoken word had given to her she began to perform at any and every open mic event that took place in city of Richmond. She even helped with the birth of a new open mic event that still takes place in the city today known as Lyric Ave. Always hungry for improvement Sabrina found herself traveling to DC in search of growth as a performer. It was here that she acquired a taste for lyricism which spun her into the study of language; Sabrina would spend her weekends devouring books from writers such as Pablo Neruda, Susan Lori – Parks, and Amiri Baraka to name a few. In 2005 Sabrina got to participate in the Theatre VCU Senior Showcase which toured in DC, VA, and Chicago. In the showcase she worked with director Lori Lindberg and turned two of her poems in to theatrical works, finally bridging the gap between her two crafts. This tour brought Sabrina to the realization that her work didn’t just provide self healing but had somehow facilitated the healing of others in the same or similar struggles. The passion, sincerity, and cunning lyricism of her work coupled with her willingness to bare all creates a provocative and dynamic experience that journeys audiences through a rainbow of emotions as she challenges listeners to face their greatest demon, which is themselves. Upon completion of the BFA program Sabrina moved to Baltimore to begin her career, surprising listeners and quickly earning the respect of her colleagues. In the last six months she’s featured at several venues and College Conferences in the tri-state area and is currently working on her first album entitled “Come Get Me”. She is also continuing her work as an actress; some acting Credits include “Breath, Boom”, “Colored Girls…” , “Cry Wolf” and many other theatrical and independent film productions. This is one artist to keep your eyes and ears on; as she will charm, amaze and melt your heart with her breathtaking performances leaving you in a state of lyrical ecstasy.
