Avondale started making this record with the idea of paying homage to the magic of Failure's "Fantastic Planet", Quicksand's "Slip" and Far's "Water & Solutions" among others. We're not quite sure if that goal was ever achieved, but the mix of styles found within this record definitely appeals to fans of those excellent albums, as well as fans of Radiohead's more guitar-driven "The Bends" and post-modern "OK Computer" periods. There is also a little homage to the late Jeff Buckley in vocalist Matt Palubicki's style. Avondale made this record over a weekend in March 1999 with the ever excellent Joel Hamilton (of Glazed Baby/Shiner/JJ Paradise Player's Club and Book of Knots) and Paul Malinowski (of Season To Risk and Shiner) sharing the engineering and production. Members of Avondale have gone on to new bands since disbanding in June of 2000.
