He began piano lessons at the age of four years old and started playing saxophone at age 12. When Donn turned 18, he joined funkateer-Bootsy Collins for several shows before attending Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. After graduating with a BS in Education, Donn joined the world famous "Commodores" and ventured on several world tours of Europe, Asia, Africa, as well as the USA. They also performed in Bermuda, Nassau Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. Donn was featured on the song "Make My Funk The P-Funk", along with funk master keyboardist Bernie Worrell. Donn has also recorded and performed with stellar award winning gospel artist "Kenny Smith".
