简介
Music teacher and musician, Steve Montgomery, is finally releasing his fourth music CD on August 7, 2015 and it’s entitled, “Shut Up And Rock!!” This release comes more than ten years after his last CD release, “Highway 3A” in 2004 and there is a very good reason for this. Montgomery says that his latest CD was the most inspiring of all to create. The local guitarist/vocalist songwriter’s resume includes almost twenty years of performing locally with Nelson pop/rock bands, “WarLord”, “Sticky Fingers” and “Three Chords And Dirty” throughout the 80s and 90s as well as two years touring around playing a one-man show throughout the Kootenays. He even had a short stint for a few months twelve years ago as a fill-in bassist for local hard rockers BCDC. “After that awesome experience of gigging and being in the roster with BCDC, and then getting injured in October 2005 and not being able to play much at all for about five years, it was a hard time. All the while I was continuously rehabbing my left arm and shoulder to come back from that devastating injury. I was just hoping to be able to play my guitar again without pain – I wasn’t really thinking about writing songs at all.” After being injured ten years ago, Steve has tenaciously rehabbed his way back and musically remains true to his rock and blues roots, SHUT UP AND ROCK!! contains ten original songs (two remixed from HWY 3A) and is far and beyond Steve’s best work ever. “Last summer (2014) I was beginning to feel and play a good deal better, so I decided to buy a Marshall Stack and then this past February I found myself writing a few new rock/power pop songs, so I just decided to stay with a more traditional rock-band arrangement of simple songs for guitars, drums and bass and keep this new music simplified – concentrating on bringing a more live sound with ‘big’ guitars. I love the “Marshall” sound! On “Shut Up And Rock!!” there are a couple of background synth/keyboard parts, but overall I tried to play as little keyboard as possible and focus more on the guitar work this time – it’s much easier for me to reproduce live”. “I guess if I had to pick a ‘genre’ for this album, it would be something like Power-Pop/Rock’nRoll, a bit rough with big guitars, like ZZ Top guitars combined with Paul Stanley-style vocals (veteran lead vocalist for KISS) than anything else!” said Montgomery. Steve’s musical influences vary greatly and include artists like Tom Petty, Lenny Kravitz, and guitarist Billy Gibbons (from ZZTop). Steve produces everything: from the initial songwriting, vocals, instrumentation, and audio production, to the digital artwork on the CDs, including web design.
