In Whatever Time We Have (Cat No MBJBTDM2) 16 Tracks including 6 new songs and introducing a cut song from Stephen Schwartz’s musical “PIPPIN” Arrangements by Jason Carr, Geoff Eales, Andrew Faulkner, Fiz Shapur, George Stiles & Missak Takoushian on Guitar Duet with Jenna Russell Album notes by Stephen Schwartz Produced by Fiz Shapur & John Barr Released - January 1998 on The Dress Circle Label Album Note by Stephen Schwartz I am very pleased that John Barr has chosen three of my songs to include on this album, for John is a singer rapidly gaining a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic for both clarity of his strong, warm tenor voice and the clarity of his interpretations of songs both old and new. It is an honour to be part of a collection that includes such remarkable new songs as John Bucchino’s moving ‘Grateful’ and ‘If I Ever Say I’m Over You’, Jason Carr’s ironic ‘If I Really Wanted You’ and another new song ‘When I See You’, that suggests the style and classic structure of an undiscovered Irving Berlin ballad. On the more familiar standards, there are the pleasures of Fiz Shapur’s elegant arrangements, plus the virtuoso playing of guitarist Missak Takoushian on ‘A Quiet Thing’ and pianist Geoff Eales’ stunning accompaniment to ‘I Love a Piano’. But above all there is the soaring strength of John Barr’s voice, made doubly exhilarating by his obvious love of singing. Ably abetted by the talented singer / actress Jenna Russell on my song, ‘In Whatever Time We Have’, John Barr serves up a collection I’m not only proud to be part of but delighted to be able to listen to again and again. Stephen Schwartz - November 25, 1997 Quotes In Whatever Time We Have fulfils the promise of John Barr's first album, A Small Affair...convincing the listener he means every word...Barr continues to grow as an artist. Max Preeo - Show Music U.S. The whole CD is filled with gems. Stu Hamstra - Cabaret Hotline U.S. John has a voice that can sing anything...from the biggest show stoppers to the most heart rendering ballads...don't miss! Cabaret Scenes - New York John is quickly becoming a serious leading light, developing his own style. I feel sure it is only a matter of time before his voice will be heard and his name will be widely recognized as one of Britain's top entertainers. Nick Davies - Musical Stages U.K. Classics and semi-classics and rarities all sung with aplomb. Michael Portantiere - InTheater U.S. Barr is among the most dynamic among the current crop of young divos, and this album is further proof that cabaret is far from a dying art. Chad Jones - ANG Newspapers Northern California U.S. John Barr not only sings well but handles the material in a manner that breaths new life into even the more elderly songs in the set. With so many albums from musical performers on offer it is difficult to tell the glitter from the gold. Take my work for it, In Whatever Time We Have is the genuine article and 18 carat at that. Mike Gibb - Masquerade U.K. The new CD is an absolutely exemplary collection of wonderful songs...we have much to be grateful for when performers like Mr. Barr are keeping the Cabaret flame burning so bright. Mark Shenton - BOZ Magazine '98 U.K. John Barr brings his attractive high tenor voice to bear on these songs and puts his own stamp on them...and gives them unusual and quite personalized interpretations and very effective arrangements. Michael Darvell - What's On In London - U.K. Obvious love and care have gone into British imp John Barr's second CD...In Whatever Time We Have...he branches into a more dynamic group of up-tempo and theatre pieces...this album showcases his special talents...a pretty impressive CD from across the pond.
