JAVONNTTE For many years, the underground culture was unknown to many except for a small number of open-minded individuals who appreciated self-expression through art and music. Now however, the underground has surfaced to a large audience of fans who have made the underground mainstream. The underground culture encompasses several arts including music, dance, and fashion. Brian Robert Garrett, better known as "Javonnte", is respected member of the underground music and dance community. He has been performing over 7 years as an accomplished dancer, musician, and music producer. Javonnte believes that dance and music are a spiritual form of communication given to him by a high power, and he uses them to express himself. His goal is to touch people emotionally and being them together. As a native of Detroit, MI, Javonnte realized at age 15 that music was his destiny. He immersed himself into the art, and soon mastered several instruments including drums, percussion, and keyboards. He studied with various accomplished musicians in the areas of jazz, gospel, and techno music. His earlier gigs started in high school marching band, but he later went on to perform as a band member with the legendary Miles Davis and also the Teddy Harris Jazz Quartet. Watching dance stylists Fred Astaire, Andre Carter, and Gregory Hines inspired Javonnte's passion for dance. He admired them for their creativity and grace. He studied ballet and modern dance, but decided to apply his formal training to urban dance styles like b-boy, breaking, and hip-hop. As a member of the Boogie Down Urban Dance Troupe, Javonnte has performed in many popular dance clubs in Detroit, Chicago, and New York. His ultimate wish is to appear in a Broadway production. Presently, Javonnte is Vice President of Mogul Entertainment, Inc., where he is also an artist and resident music producer. His musical style is a fusion of techno-dance, jazz, world, R&B, and trip-hop. Artists like Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, George Duke, Chick Corea, Prince, and Nirvana have influenced his sound, which has been called "space age music". Javonnte's latest project is a double CD release, which presents two different sides of his music. Fingerwork: The Album is a showcase of jazz music, and features collaborations with other artists and producers affiliated with Mogul Entertainment. The second album entitled Javonnte's Groove is a dance music taken to a new level. Javonnte mixes driving dance beats with soul-stirring jazz chords. This is classic music that will last a lifetime.
