简介
To Koreantown's very own, Furis, originality has always been his greatest asset. Such is the case on his new mixtape - "Float On.. Vol. 1" a collaborative effort with producer and engineer Alex E. Float On, armed with an array of rhythmic beats, provide the perfect stage for Furis aka Johnny Art to express his side of the story. Full of uplifting imagery, Furis goes against the grain by putting his message before all else. That's not to say that the lyrics won't get more than a few 'oohs and aahs' by the most stubborn critics. On "Seasons" he masterfully crafts the song's 3 choruses to maintain the same melody, syllable count and rhyme scheme while using different lyrics to send a different message each time. The positive vibe of this CD is sharply contrasted on "Last Hope" where Furis spits: "I gotta feelin that I am the last hope/ but this feelin disappears like the lines of what I last wrote." The contrast continues on "One Day" as he starts: "by the age of 5 my mama left my home/ that's why my world crumbled down and something left my soul" and later, "my grandparents raised me, my grandfather gone/ my grandmama in a old home on the phone/ and she still don't know they had me up on parole." Furis finds his way back to his roots on "5am" his ode to the grind. He begins "I'm up at 5 am/ thinkin its time to rhyme again/ ever since like way back when u know I been up on my grind/ now I can feel the pressure/ its now or never/ am I gonna make it one day? I don't know, I don't know." On the mixtape's title track "Floating On" Furis sings "imma keep floatin on/ like the clouds in the sky imma hold my own" The bread and butter of this release are on songs like "Light Of Mine," and "Batter Up" and the mixtape's jazziest song "MTA Dreams." "Ms. Cutie" an up tempo feel good song with clever 80's undertones.
