简介
Big Ben is Namibia’s Afro-Pop and Fusion’s most celebrated performing artist to date with a track record of concerts filled to capacity. Born in a village, Big Ben makes an effort to stick to ethnic sounds while carefully spicing his music up with urban and international flavors he picks up from rubbing shoulders with other musicians. “There is an edge to his music that leaves you wanting more, excited about the future, and craving another musical fix from Big Ben and his Band.” Rob Strobble (Afrikhun Pulse) The year 2013 has been busy and successful for Big Ben having won the Best Jazz/Instrumentation Award at the Namibian Annual Music Awards 2013 and having attained second position in the Last Band Standing Competition of the National Theatre of Namibia. His performance calendar has been filled with high profile events and festivals such as the Windhoek Jazz Festival where he opened for international jazz star Hugh Masekela. In an effort to influence other musicians to perform their music live, Big Ben launched a project called The Back to Live Music Project through which other established and upcoming musicians gets an opportunity to rehearse and perform their music with a full live band on stage. So far three musicians and a DJ has benefited from this charity project’s last two concerts. Big Ben now boasts 7 albums since his first release in 2001. The latest offering ‘First Collection’ contains re-recordings of old songs for freshness and includes 4 singles that were released earlier this year. His band, known as The Last Band, is made up of five musicians, Pius Paulus a drummer, Jean-Pierre Ntsika on bass, John Kasinda on keyboards and Sam Batola on Lead guitar and Ben himself as the vocalist while also playing the rhythm guitar and saxophone. But it is not just his band that enjoys performing with Big Ben, and recently Ben was accredited with performing alongside the renowned saxophonist Will Ramsay when he performed live in Berlin, Germany. Big Ben and The Last Band has vowed to do everything in their power to export Namibian music to the rest of the world by seeking bookings for festivals and other opportunities outside the country. They believe that they are ready to share Namibia’s rich cultural heritage with the world.
