简介

How do we define the things that inspire us, and what do we do with that when we know what does? Here in this collection of 4 songs, Liberty King has taken her inspiration and put it to four versions of favorite songs by her ultimate muse. In the first track, Liberty takes listeners on a quest to find "What it Feels Like for a Girl." We hear in three different languages, the intricate ways girls are unique. Esoteric sounds swirl around the words and somehow, there are new rules for what is ok when it comes to being a female. Warm and coy, Liberty's voice doesn't give everything away, but begs you to keep listening even when the words aren't familiar. Two tracks in, and things are getting colder. Opening with desolate strings, "Frozen" takes the listener into the cold depths of lonely self-importance, a place it can be easy to get lost. Liberty sings asking for a heart to turn toward her, to open for her. Tender orchestrals entice the listener to leave their cold behind. "Angel," the third track on the record, pumps and pounds with the pulse of 80s New York vibes, crowded streets and funky people on corners, up and coming youth falling in love with the risks they take. A cool synth mysteriously lures you around new corners in the tune, and any second could be the one you meet that ethereal being Liberty is singing about. It is the insecure loop of the "X-Static Process" that links listener and artist the most. Everyone knows the feeling. You're holding everything but feel like you're holding nothing, you're acting like a champion but feeling like you've been cheated, you're wholly accepted but feel like you can't please anyone. And it's in those sentiments that you begin to recall your own worth, your own need for self preservation. Are we ever good enough? It takes bravery to complete a work so bold, to make the choices artistically that Liberty King has made in this unprolonged collection of 4 tracks. The production, mixing and engineering, completed by Rudy Cerda of Arcanedisplay is experimental but honors the values represented by the originals. Guests on the recording include Cellist Efrain Munguia, Guitarist Allen Michael, Drummer Jacob Villescas and Bassist Andy Perales. Rudy also played guitar and bass. This record was recorded at Sound of Rain Studios in Edinburg, Texas. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Liberty King was born July 4, 1977 in Brownsville, Texas. Originally named Roselynn, her grandfather decided he was going to call her Liberty, and the name stuck. It was a name she knew she had to live up to. She was the oldest of three siblings, exhibiting a typical drive toward independence but a crutch of obedience. While she wanted to break free, to be someone no one expected her to be, she also felt obligated to please, to do what she had to, and to make others happy. To express her greatest desires, she wrote. She wrote to herself and she wrote to no one, afraid that if she allowed people to hear her deepest thoughts, she'd be rejected, humiliated, or cast out. She wrote poetry, short stories, and in a journal. She also loved to sing, admiring most one singer in particular - Madonna - as she was a woman who seemed to have no trouble expressing who she was or worrying about what others thought. Moving off to college, she began to feel a little more free, and toyed with the idea of writing as a career. Her pen was fierce and but her words remained captive on the papers they were put to, as professors called her poetry too lyrical. Liberty withdrew herself, her writing stopped, and she watched as the pathways to her dreams overgrew with thorns. Years passed, and at the age of 38, she was shocked by the sudden and unexpected death of her father. It was then that she made a promise to him, and to herself, that she would do something great with her life, whatever the risk therewith associated, and do so in dedication to him. Life is a short, short mess and she no longer wanted other people deciding the ways she was supposed to clean it up. For too many years she was afraid she didn't possess enough talent to sing, or to be who she wanted to be. It was time to explore the possibility that maybe she could do it, after all. She met Rudy by chance on an airplane to see Madonna just 3 weeks after her father's death. She knew fate had intervened, and that she needed to be free. To take the years of inspiration, heartbreak, insecurity and joy and create something. To be free. To be Liberty.
