Y.G.is from Richmond, VA by way of Detroit, MI. Y.G. has been in a unique position, being considered one of the best rappers out and not being on major. However, recently, Y.G. has made major life changes that have greatly affected his craft. Rise & Shine 2: Death of Y.G. is the official second release from Y.G. scheduled to be released July 1, 2010. Rise & Shine 2 is a double disc cd that captures the progress Y.G. has made. The first disc is the original follow-up that was started prior to this spiritual awakening and the second disc is all new music. This cd is accompanied by the launch of Deathofyg.com, a personal blog with the goal become more intimate with his listeners, promote a more positive lifestyle, and to talk about the bible. This project is also being promoted by a push of the last project Ri$e & $hine: It’s My Turn. The hope is to give people that love Ri$e & $hine a new perspective and spiritual people a breath of fresh air. Growing up, Y.G. got into his fair share of trouble. Lacking a solid father figure, Y.G. turned to the streets and music for guidance. Even though Y.G. has always been an honor roll student, and even a straight A student, Y.G. saw no hope in continuing education and dropped out of school. On the "road to riches and diamond rings", Y.G. did many things. These things brought several felony charges and minor incarcerations. After serving 4 months in jail Y.G. came home with a higher level of focus than ever. This led up to his debut release of Ri$e & $hine: It's my turn. With the support of "high-energy" live shows, "catchy hooks, over strong southern beats" Y.G. sold just under 1,000 copies of Ri$e & $hine. With the rise in success and notoriety, Y.G. was plagued with legal troubles. Not knowing what the future held for his freedom, Y.G. woke up one day and decided to go to Atlanta. Spending a few days in Atlanta Y.G., and his right hand man Chips, "rep'd" Richmond to the fullest in a memorable Club Crucial Performance. Atlanta embraced Y.G., while in the A, well over 100 copies of Ri$e & $hine were sold. After encountering many different people and understanding the industry much better, Y.G. realized the game wasn't for him. Everything in his life was pointing in one direction, God. Now, with a much better lifestyle he wants to use his musical talents to help others. With goals like spreading the truth, promoting healthy living, and mentoring the youth, Y.G. is bound to succeed. He is currently trying to promote not being materialistic, with lines like, "All that money doesn't matter, I be so high you would think I'm on a ladder". With this new aim he will be able to relate with his Christian brothers and other spiritual people, but also his street credentials still make him very relevant across the board. As one friend of Y.G. said, "Y.G. you the realest rapper out, because I know everything you say is true. I can vouch for that." Still the "realest", Y.G., along with God's support, will have another very successful movement. This time though, it will be in the right direction.
