Sunny Bornfree offers a unique style of music, a multifaceted expression of his life, and of the many styles of art and music he experienced growing up in Chicago and London. Having discovered a natural ability to express himself poetically at a very young age, Sunny developed a profound appreciation for Chicago’s music scene—from the underground blues and live jazz, to the graffiti culture that is so closely tied to the evolution of rock ’n roll, disco, and hip hop—elements that contributed to his own development as an artist. In addition to the arts he experienced as a native Chicagoan, Sunny also cites performers such as Louis Armstrong, Etta James, Tupac Shakur, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Mos Def, Common, and Kanye West as some of the artists who have inspired him most. Self described as having a style that is “a sonic version of a biopic,” Sunny’s music is genuinely biographical. Although his songwriting began as an exploration of his artistic capabilities, it has evolved into a means by which to convey the things he experiences on a day-to-day basis. In addition to the unique style that his fans praise him for, Sunny is known as being simply genuine—a refreshing quality in an industry that can be so clouded by the superficial. In conjunction with his work as a hip hop artist, Sunny founded the organization DSR, a collective of creative minds who support various branches of the arts, and regularly host shows in the Los Angeles area. The name behind their acronym, Do Something Rewarding, reflects not only the collective’s mission to inspire people to do what they love, but also reflect’s Sunny’s personal outlook on his career and his life as a whole; in his own words, “Life is about doing what you love to do… The biggest reward is doing what you love day to day.”
