简介
You're not reading just another artist's bio. This artist has written 49 piano instrumentals in the past 19 years. Who, you might ask? That would be 27 year-old Elle from Maple Ridge, BC, Canada. She started playing the piano at age 5. She wrote her first instrumental at the age of 8, which had her parents asking "Who was just playing that?", as young Elle sheepishly grinned and said, "Me", with her parents in disbelief. She played on a small 60-key electric keyboard until she was 15, when her grandparents bought her a full size digital keyboard complete with a disk drive, allowing her to record her music at home. She plays a wide variety of styles, but was classically trained, and took second place in a piano festival at age 16. Also at 16, her proud piano teacher took her to a teacher's workshop at a local music store, had her sit down for the session instructor and play a ragtime piece she had composed. At 17, Elle, decided to start teaching piano and is still doing that 10 years later. In 2003, she wrote her first song with lyrics, "Overtaken" for back then boyfriend, and her music has since evolved into a fresh blend of pop/r&b with some electronic and dance influence. "When I write music, I am telling how I feel about wherever I am in life and things I haven't told anyone else. Music is very personal to me and leaves me in a completely vulnerable state." Elle says. "Pressure" and "Overwhelmed" came from a near rock bottom place in the life of a 19 year old, with many hours spent soul-searching in front of the piano in her parents basement until early hours of the morning. She continued with piano lessons and kept writing until she was 21, when she moved an hour away from her hometown. "I just felt so far away from everyone and everything. I felt like I had written as much as I was capable of and there was nothing left in me that was new. I had writer's block. I just couldn't come up with anything." she tells. After almost a year without being able to write, she penned the song "Only One" in about an hour, while playing around at the piano. Elle remembers, "It just came to me. I felt inspired all of a sudden, and I literally grabbed a pen and wrote out the entire lyrics in verse/chorus form, and it was done. I didn't end up changing anything and the music for it came right away too. It felt incredible that I was writing again." From there, life took a turn for the better and it threw a new spin on writing music and gave a fresh perspective which can be heard in the funky style of "This thing called life". Thoughtfully, she adds, "I just want people to hear what I have to say, because every song I write is about personal experiences in my life and I'm ready to share it with the world. Music is in my heart and soul and I plan to live it for the rest of my life." In 2007, Elle took her first step toward her dreams. She went to the studio and laid down 7 tracks on a demo cd. She played her first gig in January 2008, and was featured as part of the "Stars on Sunday" act at the Wolf and Hound pub, among other up and coming solo artists. In early 2009, Elle's first single, "Overtaken" landed on the compilation cd "Chill Out: An Acoustic Compilation", which hit stores across Canada and the US. Elle is working on releasing a full length album sometime in 2013. Today she is mom to a 4 year old daughter, and has delved into her own music production. Passionate and honest, Elle describes her goal. "I'm writing for the one person feels something from my music. If for those 4 minutes, something hits home to them, and they feel something when they hear it, then that's all the reward I could ask for."
