“In the Sky” was written during the summer in 2021 for my wife. It was a time we were getting ready to go travel, and my wanderlust inspired me to write a song that would remind me of the wonders of being out in the open air and exploring new places with the love of my life. The folk and symphonic instrumentation of the song were personal selections that pay tribute to my indie folk influences, whereas the electronic beats and synths were my way of pushing the envelope a bit with what indie music listeners are used to listening to. The song also reminds me most of the times we rode the high-speed bullet train as we traveled from one place to another; we’ve come a long way from the days when hitchhiking on caravans and even buses were the norm to travel, and I’m reminded every time of how convenient it is now to get up and go find yourself in a strange new place. Furthermore, the song starts off referencing to the mountain sceneries I’ve enjoyed most during my travels. I have a passion for climbing mountains because while it can be daunting to scale them, the views on top of them inspire me to imagine what it must feel like when flying in the sky. Lastly, the chorus line describes the colors that I love seeing most when I’m atop a mountain and witnessing a sunset or sunrise.
