After an endeavor requiring unmeasurable sweat and toil which took its time giving the music its first breath, the jewel box of blue velvet, which sheltered ONE BY ONE, opened. The deep toned gem, KERAs first, appears as blazing as light itself, magnificently shaped by the poetry of the scorching hot desert winds and the penetrating arctic cold. From this treasure of imagination and savoir-faire, ten crystals emerge. One by one. Skillfully linked by a secret connection which permits KERA to take us on an astounding journey. Sensitive souls are invited not to hold themselves back: KERA will win you over and wrap you in their arms with delicacy. Dreamers, the great beyond to you. THREE ALCHEMISTS, TWENTY MUSICIANS Christophe Farine (bass), Nicolas Pittet (drums) and Sébastien Gosteli (guitar) are the alchemists, the fathers of KERA and this sumptuous album. Perfectionist and yet open to others influences, the trio wrote ten songs with the firm intention of inviting a number of artists and friends, who were each given free reign to express themselves. Under these circumstances the texture of each song differs according to its soloists of visiting artist, his aspirations and personality. Out of this design, five voices come along to put their stamp on the diverse songs which they inhabit, revealing to us each time another chapter in the story. On the title track "ONE BY ONE", Claire Hugenin gives us rock, powerful as well as emotional. Through "MARABOUNTA" with Elizabeth Brown a.k.a. TIZA B., we get an ample amout of soul. On the vocally romantic carpet of D.Cooper, we glide into a bit of new-wave with "NEXT SHIVER" and "WICK". As we experience the highly defined rap of Alexandre Pillonel in the "THE UNDERHANGROUD" and "U45", we fell the serious flow of the philly rhythm. And IF ONLY shows us the visionary side of Jael Krebss dreams. THE SECRET FORMULA: DIVERSIFIED HOMOGENITY The power of ONE BY ONE resides in the diversity which contains nothing that can be considered run of the mill, kitsch, not an enigma without answer. On the contrary, in this mosaic of styles which takes us from an electro-pop song "ONE BY ONE" to a jazzy drum & bass worthy of note amongst the best Bristol "U45", or to the trip-hop track fully equipped with powerful rock guitar riffs "MARABOUNTA", there exist a surprising homogeneity! The spirit of KERA penetrates every note and silence, each one cherished and perfected. One by one, the pieces come together to form a resolutely spectacular image: that of an enigmatic scene, heavenly and aquatic at the same time, ONE BY ONE hypnotizes and demands all of your attention. Because not only did KERA anchor its reflections around the meaning but the entire essence of its sound. Yet throughout the album KERAs work remains airy and light. You feel the live spirit of soul music as jazz and rock associates itself with the cellos strings, then to the percussions, to the horns and equally with the electronic programmation all finessed with the most subtle effects the machines can provide. Even the use of turntable has been included in this musical fresque with discreet additions of scratches. With this rigorous synthesis, the alchemists, Kera, takes you elegantly by the hands and shows you planets full of dreams, vivacity and intelligence.
