John Croce was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY in a time when music was much more segregated than it is today. While "rock ruled" and "disco sucked" John was listening to both (and then some). Mixing genres was unheard of at that time, but it came naturally for him since he simply loved all music.

The songs on this album are an interesting combination of 80s pop/rock, adult contemporary, blues, modern, and synth. The content also covers an interesting combination of topics including teen romance, womanizing, paranoia about the state of the world, and simply being fed up with having to pay too many bills.
