I have it on good authority that the backup musicians include Boots Randolph,Charlie McCoy,Harold Bradley and many others of theier talent. The album contains a great variety of songs,from the love songs like Honee Welch's "It Must Be Love" to David Ray's "Jitterbugging Baby" that you can dance the night away to. My personal favorite is "Wild,Wild Woman" by the great Steve Wright. It's a must for your collection. **** by Jan Stamper 6/20/2006. The most striking feature of this album is its unsung talent-pardon the pun! These artists, although relative unknown,display an amazing array of vocal and songwriting abilities. For instance, Jerry Fuller wrote melodies and lyrics that became hits for Ricky Nelson and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.Ray Ruff followed closely in the footsteps of Buddy Holly, vocally and geographically. If you enjoy Hank Williams,listen to the Buck Griffin selections. My personal favorites are Dave Tanner's contributions,Give this Americana collection a try.You will not be disappointed. 6/11/2006 by Andy Hogue, Gainesville Daily Register.If you like rockabilly, Americana, early rock 'n roll or '50s pop, this album may have a permanent home in your vehicle's CD holder--if not in the player.If anything, it's good driving music for summer vacation. This album, BIG L CD 1002, represents some of the best tracks (out of over 400 we produced) in the period 1954-2004.Most of these 14 artists come from Oklahoma and Texas. Their very first records were recorded on our LIN or KLIFF labels,and we later leased their masters to national companies such as MGM,IMPERIAL,KAPP,LONDON/DECCA,DOT,and HOLIDAY INN. There were numerous hits and many super commercial recordings among this group of artists. For instance, JERRY FULLER has 28 Gold/Platinum records for songs he either sung,wrote, or produced! TRAVELIN'MAN recorded by Ricky Nelson sold six million copies! RAY RUFF was a close friend and collaborator with BUDDY HOLLY in the TEXMEX sound which moved both into stardom in the 1960's.BUCK GRIFFIN, who sounds and writes songs like HANK WILLIAMS, was signed by MGM to fill the void created by Hank's death.BUCK was recently inducted into the ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME. FRANK "ANDY" STARR was also signed by MGM because he looked and sounded like ELVIS PRESLEY! He also was inducted into the ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME. TRELLA HART became famous for singing radio station jingles and spots for 7-ELEVEN STORES.She later was signed by CAPITOL Records. The STRIKES, a 1950's group from North Texas State in Denton, had two hit songs, BABY,I'M SORRY, and IF YOU CAN'T ROCK ME, covered by RICKY NELSON on IMPERIAL. The group is also a member of the ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME. These are just examples of the STARDOM reached by others in this group of 14.Their AMERICANA songs will thrill all fans. Many of these masters were recorded in Nashville using the A GROUP of musicians which included BOOTS RANDOLPH,FLOYD CRAMER,BOB MOORE,BUDDY HARMAN,RAY EDENTON,HAROLD BRADLEY,CHARLES McCOY, THE NASHVILLE STRINGS,ANITA KERR SINGERS, and THE JORDANAIRES.
