Like contemporaries 'Makin' Time', The Step were one of the few Mod revival-era bands to play a soul-influenced rep, rather than simply adopting an aesthetic. Having disappeared into obscurity, the band are seeing the spotlight again with a full LP on Acid Jazz's Countdown Records subsidiary. Leading the way is 'Girl', straight from the soul copybook, with a New Wave ethos and indie energy.
