"As a DJ, Theo Parrish has tended to refuse the tyranny of the solid groove - his sets are full of musical tangents, feints, diversions and ellipses. And he applies this to song structure, too, in teaming up with 4 Hero's Dego and multi-instrumentalist Akwasi Mensah to rework A Race Of Angels' 2007 string-laden spiritual jazz/neo soul obscurity. Initially their take on the track follows the structure of the original, a swirling first section winding down before going into a coda of saxophone circling a steady kick drum, which standard remix logic would suggest they should just extend to infinity. But Piano ripples slow to a halt, before a new section builds around a primitive drum machine pattern, all instruments replaced by entangled electronic keyboard lines, before grooving on for a further seven minutes. It's success is not just in making the electronic section feel like an entirely natural continuation of the track, but in making this episodic structure, lulls and all, work with complete dance floor logic."
