Jonny “Keys” Hughes Jonny was born and raised in Nacogdoches, “The Oldest Town in Texas” where he was surrounded by his loving parents, a younger brother and sister, both sets of incredible grandparents, and a group of close friends. He learned at an early age how to serve Jesus through his gifts in music by playing at the First Church of the Nazarene in Nacogdoches. After high school, he completed his Associate’s Degree in Commercial Music at South Plains College before graduating from Wayland Baptist University in 2015. While studying at WBU, he began his career as a Worship Pastor at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas as an associate to Ken Draughon. Though he has spent time touring and performing across Texas and the US, no venue means more to Jonny than the stage at First Lubbock where he leads worship on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and Thursday nights. His responsibilities include the student and university ministries’ musical worship, training and developing the gifts of young musicians within the church, and leading the band for the contemporary service. Some of his influences include Bruce Hornsby, Floyd Cramer, Anthony Burger, Gordon Mote, Ray Charles, Jackson Browne, and The Eagles, but nothing has played a greater role in shaping his music than the hymns that he played growing up in that small Nazarene church in East Texas.
