John G McCarton is a UK based singer songwriter and recording artiste who is not too easy to pidgeon-hole, with strong leanings towards bluegrass style instrumentation, (Acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass and banjo), but with songs that tell stories, in the true Old Time hillbilly music style. Lots of two and three part harmonies, that will soon get you singing along with the choruses and tapping your feet. This is his debut album, which was completely home recorded and produced by the man himself, with some nice guest input from freinds like Mikael Jonassen on the banjo, Anne Wakefield who did female duet parts, as did Hazel McCarton. His cover versions of songs by such artistes as John Prine, Steve Earle, and Jimmie Rodgers clearly illustrate John's love of a well written song. He has steered clear of the temptation to "over-produce" the recordings, on occasion leaving minor errors in, to add to the very organic feel of the performance as a whole. Well worth a listen.
