From the demonic low ebb of its convict beginnings, to the heavenly highs of its alluring promise of the good life, the beautiful harbour city of Sydney provides the backdrop for this emotional tour de force, about the journey from innocence to experience. Personal, spiritual and cultural certainties become merged and distorted like lights reflected on the water, as David weaves his mysterious and melodic narrative. Great vocal performances, tight arrangements and warm clear production values, are the hallmark of this unique studio album. David and band utilize a variety of musical styles that keep the listener engaged at all times. The songs are meticulously crafted so they are instantly accessible, but offer fresh new twists on the standard forms of rock and pop. The Welcome Strangers also features the voice of Emily Handsley Delves who adds soaring harmonies to most tracks, and searing lead vocals in the duet, Shooting the Rapids. The band have a classic 70's sound featuring Piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond B3 organ, Telecaster and 12 string electric guitars, Bass, Drums and Congas.
