The Back Porch Boys, Don Jenkins and Earl Hudgins, are a duo from Semmes, Alabama. They met in November of 2013. After a year of playing locally around the Semmes and Mobile, Alabama area, they decided to record a CD of all original songs. All the songs are based on real events in both their lives. The songs are Country/Southern Rock flavor with words that you can hear and understand. They both have been playing music for many years. Don plays rhythm, lead and vocals. Earl plays rhythm, harmonica and vocals. The release of this debut CD has been a life long dream for both of them. They play for assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospices all around the area. Both are members of the Mobile Country Music Association and play there regularly. They are involved with local open mike nights and jam sessions for people that love to play and sing. Hope you enjoy listening to the CD as much as we enjoyed doing it. Track One, Ridin' The Dragon, is about a strip of highway called the "Tail Of The Dragon". It is U.S. Highway 129 in Tennessee and North Carolina, 11 miles long with 318 curves. Just about anyone that rides two wheels knows or has heard of the Dragon. Track Two, Lovesick Country Boy, is about most any young man with his first car or truck. Out on the town trying to pick up girls. It has an upbeat tempo and some fancy Harmonica parts. Track Three, Low Income Blues, is about anyone who is or was just starting out in life with a wife and family. Times are tough and sometimes it takes both husband and wife working together just to make ends meet. It has a driving southern rock/blues feel to it. It also has great Harmonica work in it also. Track Four, Medlock Bridge, is about a tragedy in Earls family. When Earl's mother was in her early teens back in the 1940.s, she along with several of her siblings and cousins were swimming in the Chattahoochee River. One of her brothers and a cousin got too far out and was swept away by the current. Her other brother, Robert, went in after them and was able to save his brother but he wasn't able to rescue his cousin. This song is based on that event. Track Five, You Never Even Noticed I Was Gone, is about one of Earl's neighbors, who shall remain nameless. She has a habit of changing boyfriends on a pretty regular basis. One day Earl noticed that the current boyfriend had left and wondered out loud to his wife, "I wonder if she even notices they are gone?" . . Track Six, In The Dog House Again, is a song that any man can relate to. If you have ever said or done anything that upsets your girlfriend or wife then you have most likely ended up in the doghouse. It is a funny song about life in general. Track Seven, Just Happened To Be The One, is about a chance encounter with a very beautiful lady that may or may not have happened to either Earl or I. You will be surprised at the ending. Track Eight, Chattahoochee Calling, is about a young man's yearning to leave home and then later in life, wondering if he made the right decisions and the yearning to return home. Earl was born and raised in and around Norcross, Georgia. The Chattahoochee River is a prominent fixture there. As a child he would visit his Grandpa, who lived on the river, and he always wondered where the river went and where it ended. He decided to join the Coast Guard and traveled the world but all the time he was gone the river kept calling him home. He wondered why he ever left. Track Nine, Going Home Ain't What It Use To Be, is about the changes that Earl noticed when he would come on on leave from the Coast Guard. Seems that nothing stayed the same. Sometimes it was hard to even recognize his hometown. Track Ten, Karen's Song is about Earl's only daughter, Karen. She had a very rare condition called Rett Syndrome.. She was not able to communicate with words but she said plenty with her eyes and her beautiful smile. Earl wrote this for her. She passed away at age Thirty Five. Anyone who has a special needs child can relate to this song. Track Eleven, Can't Help But Think About You, is about how things may have turned out if you had made a different choice early on. It may be your first love, high school or college. But as life goes on you can't help but think about him or her. That someone that held a special place in your heart.
