Her lyrics have a special focus on improving life for the less fortunate. She reach out to people of all cultures with music that bold, ethnic, organic, and funky.

She was born in the Ivory Coast in West Africa and lived in France. She earned a master's degree in criminal justice and in education. She in now a professor at American University in Washington DC. Shakama's music continues to evolve but still rootedin the desire for social justice.
