The original idea for "Blue Diamond Sky" came to me during a trip to Kelley's Island off the coast of Ohio in Lake Erie. I later started developing the lyric to encompass the emotions I was experiencing at a time when my sweetheart had moved away. She called me up on the phone one night and I told her I had been working on a song about us that wasn't quite finished. She encouraged me to play it for her over the phone and after my initial hesitation I gave in. Later that night I felt a rush of inspiration come over me and had completed the work after leaving it on the shelf for a few months. "Blue Diamond Sky" remains very dear to me and continues to develop layers of meaning as time moves forward. No matter what you have planned in life, some things are going to hit you out of the blue.
