“Is this danceable?” was a question never asked while recording Outside Beauty, nor “is this catchy?” or even “understandable”. The songs are flawed characters that keep choosing the ditch over the road; to stay up late, have another drink, skip work. Something always almost achieved; you hear a tune that you like and it’s gone without a note left behind. One song rises from the ashes of the previous so the individual pieces weave together to a musical quilt. The record spans from wistfully crooned acoustic tracks, “Every Little Moment” and “Architecture that I Know”, to soundscapes, “The Good Ones Disappear” and tiny rockers like “So Tired” which is all said and done before your tea gets cold. Every song is an imaginary step to nowhere. A dream never completed and half-erased. Outside Beauty was recorded over the summer of 2009 at 11-15 46th Rd. Andrew Geller does most of the playing with further instrumentation and consultation from Judson Winquist and Clay Russel . The album art was created by Doreen Becker. The Isles are currently finishing the pre-production for their fourth record tentatively titled, “Pendulum” and will be playing live in the fall.
