简介

Melody grew up surrounded by music, since her mother and father are both musicians. She fell asleep every night to the sound of her dad’s saxophone, and had a soundtrack to every meal. Growing up she would jam on the piano with her sister and cousin as they sang three-part harmony together. Her mom tried to teach her piano lessons, but she could never sit still long enough to practice…. until she realized she could create her own music. Starting at age seven, she would sit at the piano and make up her own songs, even though she had no idea what she was doing theoretically. During Melody's teenage years, she started writing complete songs with lyrics and melodies to sing along with piano chords. At age 20, she decided to leave her home town, South Carolina and migrate to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. "I knew I needed to move to the other end of the country where I could be on my own and give myself the chance to grow up. I’d sit in my apartment right off of Hollywood Boulevard late at night and write about people I had encounters with, people who changed me, and people who made me realize who I am and what I want. Music is something I have to do. I was born with music in my veins and a constant song in my head and heart," said Melody. "When I write, I don’t think, the song just writes itself. I write all my songs on the piano, and they are a direct reflection to the very core of who I am and what I'm experiencing. My ears get bored very easily, so they make my fingers play chords that may sound a bit more fresh and different. You’ll be able to hear countless influences in my music, and if I were to list them all, I would need to write an essay. It all started with Chopin, The Beatles, and gospel artist, Crystal Lewis. I loved singing along to all the classic musicals like My Fair Lady and Singin' in the Rain, and was fascinated with Big Band and orchestral music. Then in high school, I discovered Coldplay, Norah Jones, and listened to John Mayer’s, “Room For Squares” album on repeat. I loved singing along to Beyonce’s songs and trying to imitate her vocal conviction and flawless runs, and after coming to LA, I started listening to a lot more Jazz, which shines through parts of my music. Right now, I can’t get enough of Kimbra and Mindy Smith, and one of my favorite artists of all time is Jeff Buckley." Last winter Melody released her first fully produced single,"New York Snow" along with a fun narrative, romantic comedy-esque music video. "This single is more of a fun, light hearted pop song, which I think shows just one aspect of what my music is," said Melody. "My goal for this song is to hopefully get it in a winter ad, preferably for a company that is popular in New York. The hook has this sort of jingle inspired melody, and I am determined that this song would fit wonderfully in an ad or movie. Also, it's just a fun winter song that makes people feel good!" Melody is currently in the studio recording demos of all the songs she has written to start the process of choosing which songs will be on her first album. "What inspires me? It's very simple. Life. Love. The beauty of it. The pain of it. The messiness of it. The hope in it. I am amazed by how perfectly just the right chord, the right note, or the right amount of silence in a song can say so much. And that's not even with lyrics yet! In my opinion, music is the most eloquent expression and illustration of the depths of our souls," said Melody. "Music is so fascinating to me and is so deeply engrained in me, that I find creating music as effortless as tying my shoelaces. I'm excited to keep creating music that is constantly evolving. I am continually seeking growth and change, and I love putting my art out into the world and allowing myself to move forward and develop as an artist and a human being with every new song I write."
